Top 40 Keywords | Atlanta SEO By Ryan Burton

In my last article I wrote about “Rock Star Keywords.” And if you asked me, I would have said that I had created a pretty cool story. However, It was very shortly after I published the article that I realized I had forgotten about something very important:

Most of the rock stars on the Top Selling Artists of All-Time list aren’t on the charts anymore.

Hmmmmm. Ok then. Something is missing. So I decided right then, to complete a new list. Do a new article that features the artists who top the Top 40 Songs Chart for the week of May 23rd, 2011.

So, I went to the American Top 40 website and took a look at who had the top songs this week. Then I checked out how they ranked in the Google Keyword Estimator Tool. Again I did the same exercise: I looked at which artist had the most overall searches, and the artist whom commanded the most money for the searches for their name on Google. Here is how it looks:

To start, much like the last list, we will eliminate the obvious searches – those that are for a word more than they are for the rock star. Like “Pink.” In the case of this word, I feel there were as many searches for the color pink as there were the artist. Agree? Disagree? This is what I think. So we eliminate pink.

The winner is no surprise, Lady Gaga. The pop singing piece of artwork tops the list with 24,900,000 average monthly searches for her name on Google. Not bad. Lady Gaga also has the most followers on Twitter. She is a very popular girl online. However “Born this way” the Madonna rip off song by Gaga is only #14 on the charts this week. So I guess you can be popular online and not be the #1 selling artist. Rihanna, Shakira & Miley Cyrus rounded out the top 5.

When it came to CPC (paying for keyterms) people would pay most for Katy Perry’s name. Are we saying that she delivers the best ROI? No, not really. But hey, add her name to your campiagn and see how it goes! The paid list chart toppers also includes Dr Dre and Usher.

On a side note, I will tell you, I don’t know who half the people are on this list are. I am clearly getting old.
